Etymology[edit]

Compound of (uchi, inside, inner) +‎ 掛け (kake), the (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb 掛ける.. The kake changes to gake as an instance of rendaku (連濁).

  1. an inside leg trip
    A kimarite (winning move in sumo) when both rikishi are grappling with each other, whereby one rikishi wraps his leg around the inside of his opponent's leg, then pulls back with his leg and turns with his upper body in order to pull his opponent around and off-balance. Similar to the 大内刈 (ōuchigari) move in jūdō.
