Particle[edit]

拉個

  1. (dated Shanghainese) Used to indiacte the past perfective.
  2. (dated Shanghainese) Used to indiacte the past progressive.

Usage notes[edit]

  • The past perfect cannot be indicated with a particle in contemporary Shanghainese. Instead, an initial temporal reference frame is set up, and the event in which Old Shanghainese would use the past perfective would be stated in the perfective.
  • The difference between the two senses is that the prior has to appear back to back, while the latter can appear separate and encircles the main verb.
