Etymology[edit]
Term first attested around the Tenshō era (1573-1592).
The 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of verb 傾く (kabuku, “to tilt, to lean”).[1][2]
The kanji spelling is an example of phonetic ateji (当て字), literally "song, dance, and skill".
