From Latin Iūdaea.[1][2][3] Alternatively, originally from Dutch Judea,[4] followed by a later shift in pronunciation likely influenced by the ultimate (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin etymon Iūdaea.
The spelling is an example of ateji (当て字), from Chinese 猶太/犹太 (Yóutài).
