Derived from an older verb *kapt (“to hit”) (cf. Lithuanian kàpti (“to chop, to hit”)), whence also kapāt.

1. scythe (farming tool consisting of a bent blade attached to a long handle (a snath), used for cutting grass, cereals, etc.)

   asināt izkapti ― to sharpen the scythe
