Etymology
From Mediaeval Byzantine Greek ἐμπορῶ (emporô), ἠμπορῶ (ēmporô). Through a folk etymology connection to ἔμπορος m (émporos, “merchant”), ultimately from Ancient Greek εὐπορέω (euporéō, “to thrive, prosper, find means”).
