Etymology
From Proto-Vietic *tʃ-reː. The nominal derivative of xay (“to grind”). Cognate with Muong Bi khày, Proto-Katuic *ʔndree (whence Pacoh ntray), Khasi synrei, Khmer អង្រែ (ʼɑngrɛɛ), Riang tᵊnrɛʔ¹, Hu ŋʁíʔ, Semai renééq.
