Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *werˀtmen or *werˀtmin, from Proto-Indo-European *wértmn̥, from the root *wert- (“to turn”). Cognate with Sanskrit वर्त्मन् (vártman, “track, course”).
