Usage notes[edit]

The "severe acute respiratory syndrome" tranlates into Finnish as äkillinen vakava hengitystieoireyhtymä, but the term is seldom used. Usually the English initialism SARS is used as the Finnish name of this illness. An individual occurrence of SARS may be referred to as SARS-tapaus.
