@Wyang, Justinrleung: I was going to clean up this etymology, but 點心 doesn't have a Taishanese pronunciation, and I don't even know whether this term actually came through Taishanese. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 16:41, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

- @Metaknowledge It can't be from Taishanese, since it would be iam2 lhim1 (I haven't added it to the entry because I can't find it in any online Taishanese dictionary). It would have to be from

- Using this database, most Cantonese dialects pronounce 點 with a /t/ initial (often /tim/), but almost no Cantonese variety pronounces 心 as /sim/. Borrowing from other varieties of Chinese also seems phonetically unlikely. It seems this is more likely an alteration of dim sum, for ease of pronunciation, or influenced by how 心 is pronounced /sim/ in many Hakka and Min dialects. Wyang (talk) 22:21, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
