The OED also has 1) the spinal cord, 2) the nape of the neck. SemperBlotto (talk) 14:31, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

nuke (noun)

"A microwave oven". Can't seem to find any quotations. — SGconlaw (talk) 18:08, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, microwaving something is sometimes called nuking it? I've also heard it as a slang.
Right, the verb sense is not in question, only the noun. It does not matter whether it is slang, but it needs to have been recorded in durably archived media; blogs don’t count.  --Lambiam 22:20, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Macrowave[edit]

Unless wrong on purpose, i am confused by the sequence "nuke and macrowave". If nuke means microwave already, what would macrowave mean? Soap 03:37, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A nuclear power station. The single citation is telling the story of someone's misunderstanding of the word, so I don't believe it is valid. Equinox 03:25, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rfv-sense "(Wikimedia Commons jargon) To completely delete all uploads of a user, usually due to copyright violations or vandalism." I know mw:Extension:Nuke is a thing, but has this use (specific to Wikimedia Commons and not other wikis?) actually made it into durably archived sources? * Pppery * it has begun... 18:49, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect this is going to be near-impossible to cite with durably archived sources, but we could probably ask on Commons if this is accurate haha. Theknightwho (talk) 16:08, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unless there is some rule that says Wikimedia jargon is exempt from needing durably archived citations then that doesn't matter. Category:en:Wiki shows that there are several other Wikimedia jargon entries which are properly cited. * Pppery * it has begun... 20:24, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seems redundant to sense 2 ("to destroy or erase completely"). — Sgconlaw (talk) 21:30, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, this is just Wikimedia's use of a common term. You can find similar references to forum threads and Reddit accounts being "nuked" as well. There might be enough for an internet-specific subsense, but it's not Wikimedia jargon by any means. Binarystep (talk) 05:57, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
