Particularly: “The spelling Waage is much older than 1927 - at best it was re-introduced in 1927 (but how, through which rulebook?)”

From Middle High German wāge, from Old High German wāga, from Proto-Germanic *wēgō (scales). The second a was introduced in 1927 to distinguish it from Wagen. More at wey.
