  1. (intransitive) to wither, shrivel
  2. (intransitive) to fade
  3. (intransitive, wine) to dry bunches of grapes by exposure to the sun prior to winemaking
  4. (transitive, intransitive, cooking) To sweat / To cook slowly at low heat, in shallow oil and without browning, to reduce moisture content.
