[edit]From old Galician and Old Galician-Portuguese bucigiar (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), probably from the blend of Latin bucca (“mouth”) and *oscitiare, from oscitare. Cognate with Portuguese bocejar and Spanish bostezar.[1]
