Etymology

From Old Galician and Old Galician-Portuguese bruyar (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), perhaps from a Vulgar Latin *brugāre if cognate to French bruire (“to roar”).

1. (intransitive) Of a bull, to make its characteristic lowing sound, specially when on heat or angry; to bellow
