From Ottoman Turkish بیوك (büyük, “big, grand”), from earlier *biyük < *beδük, from Proto-Turkic *bedük (“big”), derived from *bedü- (“to grow big”). See büyü-. Cognate with Karakhanid بَدُكْ (bedük, “big”), Old Uyghur pʾdwk (bedük, “big”), Kazakh биік (biık, “high”).
