Etymology
From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] French coefficient. Coined by French mathematician François Viète. Or influenced by (New) Latin coefficient-, which is the stem of coefficiens, which is a substantivation of the present active participle of coefficere, which comes from co- and efficere.
