constituent country (plural constituent countries)

  1. An administrative division of the United Kingdom, of which there are three: the Kingdoms of England and Scotland, and the Principality of Wales (Northern Ireland is a province).
  2. By extension, any country that has the status of being a subdivision of a larger sovereign state.
    The constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, of the Kingdom of Denmark.
