Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Vulgar Latin, from Latin intellegō (to understand, perceive),[1][2][3] with metathesis of the -l- and -g- and many other phonological distortions in dialects, with the predominant form ultimately phonologically contaminated with gjoj (to hear).

  3. (transitive, intransitive) to listen (to advice or instructions), obey
    Synonym: bindem
  4. (transitive) to learn, find out about
    Synonym: mësoj
  5. (transitive, intransitive, colloquial) to understand, speak (a language)
    Synonym: kuptoj
  6. (intransitive, chiefly in the negative, colloquial) to not care, not want to hear about [+ nga (object)]
