Turkish

Etymology

From Old Anatolian Turkish tağıl- (“to be scattered, to spread”), from Old Turkic tarıl- (to be scattered), passive form of Old Turkic tar- (to scatter, spread), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Turkic *dar- (to go apart, scatter, spread)[1]. The reason of -/r/- to -/ğ/- assimilation is unknown. Compare darmadağın (something in complete disarray), see also dağıtmak.
