dalmak
Appearance
Turkish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طالمق (dalmak), from Old Anatolian Turkish طالمق (dalmaq), from Proto-Turkic *tāl- (“to sink”). Compare Azerbaijani dalmaq, Gagauz dalmaa.
The sense 'to suddenly attack in a fight' is likely a semantic loan from dialects.(Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
