Etymology
From Old French ficher, fichier, from Vulgar Latin *fīccāre, present active infinitive of *ficcō, from earlier *figicō, ultimately from Latin figō (“I fix”). The "give a damn" sense is a minced oath of foutre (“to fuck”).
