(deprecated template usage) fire at will

  1. (military) Fire when ready. A command that allows troops to use weapons at their discretion and choose their own targets, allowing the individual soldier a greater freedom of timing the shot with target movement and similar.

Usage notes

  • In contrast, the plain command fire means to open fire at once.
