From Indo-Portuguese jágara, jagra, from Kannada ಶರ್ಕರೆ ‎(śarkare), Urdu شکر ‎(shakkar), from Sanskrit शर्करा ‎(śárkarā) (hence ultimately cognate to English sugar).
