Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Finnic *kakko ~ *kaakko (“southeast”). Cognate to Estonian kagu and Ingrian kakko. Possibly related to kaakkuri, in which case the cardinal direction meaning could derive from a meaning like "the direction where migratory birds come from".
