Finnish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Cognate to Estonian kagu (south-east) and Ingrian kakkoi (south-east). Possibly related to kaakkuri, in which case the cardinal direction meaning could derive from a meaning like "the direction where migratory birds come from".

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈkɑːkːo/, [ˈkɑːkːo̞]
  • Rhymes: -ɑːkːo
  • Syllabification: kaak‧ko
