Via some other European language, ultimately from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] French cartographie, from carte (map) (itself from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek χάρτης (khártēs, sheet of paper)) and γράφω (gráphō, I write)) with the suffix -ie ((deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin -ija).
