Etymology 1

From Malay kentang, from Classical Malay kentang, from Javanese ꦏꦼꦤ꧀ꦛꦁ (kenthang, “tuber”), probably from Proto-Mon-Khmer *t₁aŋ (“joint, jointed stem”).

• Semantic loan from English potato (“underpowered; low-end”, literally “potato”) for "an underpowered, low-end computing device".
