Affixed wedana + ke- -an, from Javanese ꦏꦮꦼꦢꦤꦤ꧀ (kawedanan).

- (government, historical) district: a former administrative division in Java, Dutch East Indies and Indonesia.
Usage notes[edit]
Kewedanaan was a former administrative division level, below kabupaten and above kecamatan. The term was used as replacement for Dutch district and Japanese 郡 (gun).
