[edit]From Malay kubur, from Classical Malay قُبُور, from Arabic قُبُور (qubūr, “grave, to bury”), plural conjugation of قَبْر (qabr, “to bury, to entomb”). Displaced native tanam (initially meaning “to bury”, now chiefly meaning “to plant”), and pendam (“to bury deeply”).
