From Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 2 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "fiu-fin-pro" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. (compare Estonian laud (“table”)), most likely borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (compare Lithuanian plautas (“shelf”)), or alternatively from Proto-Germanic *flauþī (compare Norwegian flauta (“crossbeam in sleigh”)). The word has also been borrowed into Samic (compare Skolt Sami luʹvdd (“plank; float for seine”)).

- An element in many compound words, where the English equivalent is "board" (The Finnish equivalent for "board" may also be taulu or levy). These compounds can be shortened to plain lauta, if there is no danger of confusion.

- lainelauta (“surfboard”)
- lumilauta (“snowboard”)
- ponnahduslauta (“springboard”)
- (colloquial) A woman who has small breasts.
Usage notes
- As sawn timber, lauta is generally at least 75 mm wide and no more than 38 mm thick. Anything narrower is called rima, and anything thicker is lankku or parru.
