Etymology

From Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 2 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "fiu-fin-pro" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., cognate to Finnish levätä. Possibly from Proto-Germanic *hliwjaną (compare Middle High German ge-liuwen (to rest)) or Proto-Germanic *slēpaną (to sleep) (compare Old English slæpan (to sleep)).

Originally a rarely-used dialectal word, but it was brought into the standard language in the example of Finnish.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈleb̥ɑmɑ/, [ˈleb̥ɑmɑ]
