French

Etymology

From mou (mol, molle), or from Latin mollīre, present active infinitive of molliō (I soften).

Pronunciation

Verb

mollir

  1. (intransitive, rare) to mollify, become soft
  2. (intransitive, rare) to ease off or die down; to relent, abate, give way

Conjugation

This is a regular verb of the second conjugation, like finir, choisir, and most other verbs with infinitives ending in -ir. One salient feature of this conjugation is the repeated appearance of the infix -iss-.
