Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Vietic *mɔːs (mosquito; fly), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *muujs ~ *muə[j]s (mosquito; gnat). Cognate with Muong mõi, Khmer មូស (muuh), Phong-Kniang moːs ("fly") and Bahnar moih.
