From Middle Vietnamese mũi, from Proto-Vietic *muːs (nose), from Proto-Austroasiatic *muːh ~ *muːɕ (nose). Cognate with Khmer ច្រមុះ (crɑmoh), Bahnar muh, Khasi khmut, Mon မိုဟ်, Car Nicobarese meh.
