Particularly: “The root that gave rise to Khmu [Cuang] ʰŋɔʔ, Old Mon sṅo' ("husked rice") (which certainly looks like a regional innovation) doesn't have any other reflex in Vietic (if we accept this word as one). Too many hoops gotta be jumped to connect this word to that AA root. Most probably this element is the same one as bí ngô, which is likely just Chinese  / , here used as a generic indication of exoticness or foreignness, same as its synonym bí rợ.”
