Etymology
Via some other European language, ultimately from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin ontologia, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek ὤν (ṓn, “on”), present participle of εἰμί (eimí, “being, existing, essence”), and λόγος (lógos, “study of”), with the suffix -ia (Latvian -ija).
