From Old Irish ro-, from Proto-Celtic *ɸro-, from Proto-Indo-European *per-. Cognate of Welsh rhy-, Old Breton ro- (Breton re-); cognate of English fore, Latin prō. Compare Scottish Gaelic rò-.
