[edit]From Proto-Finnic *sarvi (compare Estonian sarv), from Proto-Finno-Ugric *śarwe (compare Erzya сюро (śuro) and Hungarian szarv), borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćr̥Hwa- (compare Avestan 𐬯𐬭𐬏 (srū, “horn, claw, talon”), 𐬯𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬁 (sruuā, “horn”)),[1] ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱerh₂-. Doublet of hirvi.
