From Old Galician and Old Galician-Portuguese sazon (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from Latin satiōnem, accusative singular of satiō (a sowing, planting), from satis (ample, sufficient). Cognate with Portuguese sazão and Spanish sazón.
