Etymology[edit]

According to Orel "A difficult word without any reliable explanation". Others have suggested Proto-Albanian *ghemen, from Proto-Indo-European *ĝem(e)- ‎(to marry), cognate to Ancient Greek γαμέω ‎(gaméō, marry), Avestan [script needed] ‎(zāmaoya, brother of son-in-law), Sanskrit जामा ‎(jāmā, daughter-in-law) but with insurmountable semantic problems.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈzɛməɾ/, [ˈzɛməɹ]
  • (Gheg) IPA(key): /ˈzɛ̃ːməɾ/, [ˈzɛ̃ːməɹ]

Noun[edit]
