ξεκιν(ώ) (xekin(ó)) + modern suffix -άω (-áo). Inherited from Byzantine Greek (ἐ)ξεκινῶ ((e)xekinô) from the Ancient Greek ἐκκινῶ (ekkinô) with ἐκ- > (ἐ)ξε- + κινέω (kinéō). Morphologically, from ξε- (xe-) +‎ κινώ (kinó).
