Etymology[edit]
Possibly from Middle Chinese compound 銅鑼 (MC duwng la, literally “copper + gong”). Alternatively, coined in Japan from Middle Chinese-derived components.
The reading represents a likely sound shift from the expected on'yomi of dōra.
