The other most frequent suggestion Daphne gnidium is also bad because it does not smell except its bark weakly. Antiquity’s authors talk about its bark, but the frequent correspondence with σῦριγξ as in syringa and fistula brings us generally to Cassia fistula, as also mentioned by Genaust, a plant then imported from the east, and cherished by apiculturists (MHG benblum, benencrud). undo
