Etymology

Inherited from Byzantine Greek κουνώ (kounṓ), from Ancient Greek κινῶ (kinô), κινέω (kinéō, to set in motion, arouse), with sound change -ι- (-i-) > -ου- (-ou-) via influence of the initial κ- (k-) in conjunction with medial -ν- (-n-).[1]
