[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *pʰúyō, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰuHyéti, from *bʰuH- (“to appear, become, rise up”).[1]
Cognate with Old Armenian բոյս (boys, “plant”), Sanskrit भव॑ति (bhávati), Avestan 𐬠𐬎 (bu), Latin fuī (“to have been”), Old English bēon (English be), Albanian bëj.
