[edit]Inherited from Middle Russian богатꙑрь (bogatyrʹ), багатꙑрь (bagatyrʹ), from a Turkic language, ultimately from Proto-Turkic *bagatur. First attested in Russian in 1425.[1] Compare Ukrainian богати́р (bohatýr), Mongolian баатар (baatar), Bashkir батыр (batır), Turkish batur, Persian بهادر, etc. More at bogatyr.
