Etymology[edit]

The root is կալ- ‎(kal-), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷw-əl-, from *gʷeu- ‎(to bend). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἐγ-γυαλίζω ‎(eg-gualízō, put into the palm of the hand) and Latin vola ‎(palm).
