Belonging to the family ء ن ي (ʔ-n-y), “to come or draw near”, “to be at or present”, “to happen or occur“, “to come to a point in time”. Related to هُنَا (hunā, here, in this place; then, now, at this point), حِين (ḥīn, time, season, duration of occurring), أَنْ (ʔan, that, that before us presently), إِن (ʔin, if possible; having the possibility to occur or happen, a chance of coming to be before us, of presenting itself), إِنَّ (ʔinna, surely; now surely, now indeed), and أَيْنَ (ʔayna, where, at which place). Related cognates with Akkadian 𒀭𒉡 (annu, now; see, look), Hebrew אָנָה ('ána, whither, to where), Ugaritic 𐎀𐎐 (ản, where, at which place, to which point), Classical Syriac ܐܢ (ʾān, where, at a place; until when, how long).
