Etymology

From root س و ي (s-w-y). Cognate with Hebrew הִשְׁתַּוָּה (hishtawwā).

1. (intransitive, reciprocal) to be or become equal or equivalent

   Synonym: تَسَاوَى (tasāwā)

2. (construed with بِ (bi) or وَ (wa)) to be or become equable with, uniform with, even with, level with
3. to be or become flat, plane or plain
4. to be or become straight, right, direct, or rightly directed
5. to seek or desire what is equal, equable, uniform, even, level, etc.
6. to stand upright
7. to ascend
8. (construed with عَلَى (ʕalā)) sit down (firmly) on, mount
9. to be made or become symmetrical, congruous or consistent
10. to be made, formed or fashioned in a suitable manner
11. to be made or become adapted to the requirements of its case or of wisdom
12. to be made or become complete
13. to be made or become right or good
14. to become rectified, adjusted or put into a right or good state
15. to become full-grown or thoroughly cooked
