Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *batgak (swamp, marsh), from the same root of باتمق (batmak, to sink). Cognate with Azerbaijani bataq, Bashkir батҡаҡ (batqaq), Chuvash путхах (puthah), Kazakh батпақ (batpaq), Kyrgyz баткак (batkak), Turkmen batga, Uyghur پاتقاق (patqaq) and Uzbek botqoq.
